My problem isn't in sending and receiving the MP3 file. It's not being able to open or save an MP3 file attachment in OE.

Sorry to say the obvious but, can you open/save other files (different extention)?
Did you change the OE setting for open/save attachments?
Which application is associated with mp3 extension (Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, Winamp...)?

Bob, just for the fun of it - take a look in here (Go to Internet Properties, then click on ADVANCED tab and see under SECURITY).

Is anything different than what you see on this screenshoot ?

Technical :
I have no problem with other extentions like jpg for instance.
MP3 is assigned to Jet Audio. I used to be assigned to Winamp but I just now changed the assignment.

Have you tried playing the file from WMP ? Like, going into file > open and loading it?

The problem isn't playing it. First you have to be able to OPEN it. and it's not the file type it's an OE and Security problem.

Bob, have you tried to reinstall (repair) Outlook Express ? Here is something from Microsoft WEB site:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378

I remember, once I had huge problems accessing Housecall online scanner (Java 2 runtime environment involved). I know it has nothing to do with your problem, but still... Each time I entered housecall web site, my Internet Explorer used to freeze. Following that procedure, helped me instantly... Just another idea...

Cheers !

Bob, another one...

Go to Control Panel, go into system properties and choose ADVANCED tab. Then click on SETTINGS under PERFORMANCE section (the one at the top). When next window is open, choose DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION tab (see attachment). Tell me which one is checked... if you have second one checked, then just add Outlook Express in the list. You'll see ADD button at the bottom... I'm, not 100% sure, but this might me solution for your problem. Good luck !

Cheers !

I've changed it back since that didn't help. :'(

Will be re-installing XP next

I know that there isn't anything wrong with the file. I have it on my HD and can play it without any problems. I just can't open or save mp3 files in OE.

Did you try another email client than OE?
Can you receive the file into another program (Thunderbird for instance) and then try to open/save the mp3 file?
