Ok, well email clients can't use SSL with Avast, since it would block Avast from scanning the messages.

From what I've read, you have to setup your email client as a normal POP account, without SSL.  Avast will secure the connection for you.

The Avast4.ini file where you could change the maximum amount of connections was usually located here: "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini".

I don't have a clue where it is in version 5 or 6 though, I don't have that on my systems here. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Okis.
I'll try. I think or remember is EmailShield.ini now.

Look complicated to adapt all my account to the email shield.

Can I turn off the Avast email shield ?

I have revised the email shield and was with the incoming messages activated and outgoing messages deactivated.
Now I have deactivated the email shield completely.

I'd suggest we actually fix the problem rather than just disabling the shield.

No, I don't think you get what we're trying to say.

It's not a "per account" setting.  It's a global setting that tells avast "ok, don't scan more than "x" amount of messages at any given time".  Now, if we set that to unlimited and your email client starts downloading messages from 50 accounts at the same time, it won't error out. It'll be slow I'm sure, but it should work.

Just some info....
if you worry about Email security, you should know that Google is protecting all Gmail accounts with Postini spam/virus filter, using two virus scanners form McAfee and Authentium

I don't think SSL is for SPAM/Virus protection, it's for the protection of your login credentials and so that someone can't eavesdrop on the network while you are downloading messages.

I also don't think that the OP is worried about security, they just want the scanner to work as it should and not give errors.

AvastUI, Settings, Status Bar, Components monitored, uncheck the Mail Shield.

Personally I would preserver and try to resolve the problem.
