Avast review
« on: October 09, 2004, 10:45:17 PM »
Hey all,

A while since I have posted here a message,...so here goes,...
While surfing the internet I have found this review on Avast:
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=161952

Maybe a good thing to see what the "con's" are,..

I didn't know you could toss around a virus over your harddrive,...I thought it was "quarantined",....  Maybe an idea,...to move it straight away to the quarantine,...so it can't do any harm,....

looking forward for version 4.5 btw,...  :D

Quarentine can only take place if it is detected first. ;)

From that website:

you can hightlight, copy, cut, paste, a virus around your hard drive and it won't detect it until you try to open it.
Depends on your settings.

Unless you move file into Chest by yourself.

The copy/move issue is only for Normal Sensitivity.
On High, this isn't possible.

It would have been a good idea if you had read the complete review and all associated post, because several members of these forums commented (including myself) on the Con's, that they were effectively incorrect and were due to the settings used by the reviewer.

Yeah,...I do not know all memberz on the Avast forum by heart,..so I do not recognize them when they post on another forum.

Its a good thing that more and more people start to appreciate Avast, even though it had bad results in the past.  My opinion is, that you can never achieve and hold good results if you never experienced bad ones,...

Its a good review indeed,..especially for people who do not know Avast at all,...

Which, is why I was surprised when you mentioned the Con's, when people had explained the reason for the inaccurate Con's.
