Occasional BSOD
« on: May 08, 2011, 06:35:43 PM »
I get occasional BSOD on startup. I ran Who Crashed and this is the result

Crash dump directory: C:\Windows\Minidump

Crash dumps are enabled on your computer.

On Sun 5/8/2011 2:20:32 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\050811-14305-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: aswsp.sys (aswSP+0x44640)
Bugcheck code: 0xE3 (0xFFFFF880048FE640, 0xFFFFFA80088D6040, 0x0, 0x2)
Error: RESOURCE_NOT_OWNED
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\aswsp.sys
product: avast! Antivirus System
company: AVAST Software
description: avast! self protection module
Bug check description: This indicates that a thread tried to release a resource it did not own.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: aswsp.sys (avast! self protection module, AVAST Software).
Google query: aswsp.sys AVAST Software RESOURCE_NOT_OWNED

One thing that finally dawned on me these seem to occur when I close windows/browsers and immediately click Shut Down system. If I wait a min or so it doesn't seem to happen. Last night I had some folders open editing photos and just closed everything and clicked shutdown. I got the BSOD on bootup this morning. The last one was over one month ago.

Please, go to folder \windows\minidump and send the newest (recent) .mdmp files for analysis.
There is also C:\Windows\Memory.dmp file.
Better if you can compress (zip), rename it with an unique name, them and add some information about the BSOD and the link for this thread.  ;)
Upload it to this anonymous ftp server: ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming/

The link doesn't appear to work it opens but there doesn't appear to be any way to upload anything. I tried in Firefox and IE both I'm using 6.0.0191 free version. I've got the zipfile with minidump system info and a link to this thread.

Joe, it's like it works. You have write access and not read. You can send a file but can't see it.
