It's a Private Google Doc site used for Second Life work, (vacancy list for properties) since it's a private site, can't post link i don't think

My job is to update that list, and some reason sometimes Avast makes it hard to open--i suppose i could open the site after SL is closed at night and update it, but i prerfer to update while i'm in Phoenix Viewer of Second life..as it seems quicker to do

Aside from Tech's question.
Are there any errors displayed ?
What do you mean by making it hard to open ?

I take it that you can open other sites without problem ?

What is your firewall ?

Firewall Windows 7 Firewall, and Netgear Router, WGR614V10

Other sites open fine, No errors, just browser not opening at all

It finally does open the browswer after i disable Avast, but if i leave Avast running, the browswer window does not come up, i click on the link for the page in my email, Gmail, in Windows Live mail program, sometimes the Window (Ie9) doesn't open--til after i disable Avast all 8 shields

Guess will have to do some PC maintenance later on today

What if you just stop the web shield for 10 minutes ?
You could also try adding the URL to the avastUI, Real-time Shields, Web Shield, Exclusions.

I see from your signature that you are still using avast 5.1, the latest release is 6.0.1091. Or you could try the pre-release version of avast 6.0.1119, if you are happy to try a pre-release build, it is quite stable. For more info and download links http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=77580.0.

The reason I suggest it is there is little value in trying to chase down a problem in an old version.

Haven't updated signature, but am using 6.0.1091, but i guess i could try a clean install, of the pre-release, and see how that handles, and also add that url to exclusions section.

as long as it's stable, i'm happy to try anything lately, as long as it works good, then i'm happy

will give it a shot and report back, and update signature as well shortly

OK, if no change try the other two options disable web shield or add the URL to the exclusions.
