How do you upate Avast?  Did you have any other Anti-Virus or Security software on your computer?  What other security software do you have now?  What is your Operating System?

Have you run a full scan with Avast?  I would update the Avast definitions manually, and than run a full scan. Select "Move to Chest" at the end of the scan for any objects found.  Also, I would get (if you don't already have it) a free outstanding malware removal program called Malware Bytes from www.malwarebytes.org Install that, update it, and run a full scan AFTER doing a full scan with Avast. Follow the recommended prompts for dealing with removing anything that Malware Bytes finds.  Quarantine would be the first option, delete would be the second option.

Where did you get the System Restore Repair utility?  If you give us the URL, please replace the "http" part of the link with "hxxp" to prevent accidental clickage of the link.  Avast may be able to run tests to see if this System Restore Repair program is legit or malware.

Other thoughts you may need to set IE 8 to "Accept all Cookies" in the "Privacy Tab" Under Tools-Internet Options to get Google Settings to hold.  As a side note, this was the only way that I could get "Google Instant" (which I CANNOT STAND!) to turn off and stay off.

I would update Avast and do a Full Scan, and than update Malware Bytes and do a full scan with that.  Report back your findings.  I have some initial concerns about the System Restore Repair Utility that you are using.

Are you using Windows XP?
Why do you need to repair System Restore? Isn't it working?
I suggest an installation from scratch:

1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you've run it.
5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro. Or even upgrade your key from old versions.
7. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.
The best things in life are free.

Autocomplete is a function in the Google search engine that can be disabled and configured: http://www.google.com/support/websearch/bin/answer.py?answer=106230.  Perhaps at some point you made changes to it or disabled something.  Also read this: http://www.google.com/support/websearch/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=497&ctx=cb&src=cb&cbid=2im5gmer852k&cbrank=1.

Please read the links and reconfigure it the way you want it.  This function has nothing to do with Avast.

I have updated the last version program version of avast manually, Avast is the only security software I have on my computer. I have windows Xp. The full scan of avast have found nothing, the same with malwerbytes. I have used system restore repair because my computer doesn't create restore points. This is the link where I found the program hxxp://www.utilitypc.biz/948/system-restore-repair-1-1/ hxxp://www.utilitypc.biz/download_08/SystemRestoreRepair/sysrestorepair-1_1.zip
the problems whit IE8 and msn live mail happend only when I update the program, not the latest virus definitions

In XP, if you go to Start > Control Panel > System > System Restore (there is a tab for it), you should be able to create/change/disable System Restore this way.

See if you can do it this way, as this is the normal way to do it in XP.

Did you try opening up Google in your browser and changing the settings from the links I gave you?

My computer is able to create/ disable/change the restore point, but il never create restore points automatically, I have always to create them manually. My google settings are correct, and I alway clean the cache of IE8. Whwn I udate virus definitions all it's ok, yhe problems begin when I update the new version of the program.

Let's check for malware first... just to be sure.

Please do the following:

  • Download Malwarebytes Antimalware free here: Click!
  • Install the downloaded Malwarebytes Antimalware free
  • Run Malwarebytes Antimalware free by double-clicking on it's desktop icon
  • In Malwarebytes Antimalware free go to the tab Update and update it
  • In Malwarebytes Antimalware free go to the tab Scanner
  • Select Perform quick scan and click on Scan button

After the scan has finished, the scan-log will automatically open in notepad.
Do not close and do not apply any action within Malwarebytes Antimalware free right now.

  • In notepad click on File and then on Save as
  • In the Save as window select any convenient folder to save in
  • At the bottom of the Save as window make sure code ANSI is selected
  • At the very bottom of the Save as window click on Save

Attach the log file you just saved to your next post by clicking on Additional Options at the bottom left of the forum post editing screen.

I will review the log as it comes in and give further advice. Should you receive no answer in due time because I am offline, just close Malwarebytes Antimalware free and check here at a later time.

Thank you

The MBAM log is clean...

Is Avast the only antivirus-program you use? What did you use prior to Avast?
Any Firewall-programs? Any tweaking-programs (like TuneUp or anything similar)?

This is beyond me, somehow...

If you are willing, we can do an OTS scan which gives more information about your system.
Please follow below instructions (maybe we don't find anything, but we can at least try):

  • Download program OTS to your desktop from here: Click!
  • Start OTS by double-clicking on the desktop icon
  • In OTS select All Users
  • In OTS under Additional scans select the following

Reg - Disabled MS Config Items
    Reg - Drivers32
    Reg - NetSvcs
    Reg - SafeBoot Minimal
    Reg - Shell Spawning
Evnt - EventViewer Logs (Last 10 Errors)
    File - Lop Check

  • In OTS in the Custom scan box paste in the below bold text:

    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    explorer.exe
    winlogon.exe
    Userinit.exe
    svchost.exe
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    hklm\software\clients\startmenuinternet|command /rs
    hklm\software\clients\startmenuinternet|command /64 /rs
    CREATERESTOREPOINT

  • Now close all other programs (including browser)
  • In OTS click the Run Scan button
  • Do not use the PC while the scan is running as the computer might freeze

  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open automatically with the log file loaded in it
  • In Notepad click on File and then on Save as
  • In the Save as window select any convenient folder to save in
  • At the bottom of the Save as window make sure code ANSI is selected
  • At the very bottom of the Save as window click on Save

Attach the log file you just saved to your next post by clicking on Additional Options at the bottom left of the forum post editing screen.

I will review the log as it comes in and give further advice.

Do a repair installation of WinXP.
That should solve the problem.
