Windows Media Player Red Again
« on: May 11, 2011, 12:06:00 PM »
Just installed latest version of Avast 6.0.1125 via gui over previous version 6 on legit copy of Windows Home XP SP3 and  noticed that windows media player 11 is yet again back to that horrible red colour. Will have to look up which files need to be registered in windows registry again.

Edit.

Did this and back to normal again---

Start, run, then paste in the following pressing OK after each line

regsvr32 jscript.dll

regsvr32 vbscript.dll

Everything else seems ok but looks like I will have to perform the above every time Avast program is updated.

Yup, I can second that.  I've had the same thing happen on four legit Windows XP SP3 systems (two XP Home, two XP Pro) thus far.  After updating 6.0.1091 to 6.0.1125 via the gui and rebooting, Windows Media Player turns red.

Your solution ...

regsvr32 jscript.dll

regsvr32 vbscript.dll

... resolves it and restores Windows Media Player back to the way it's supposed to look, but I don't like the thought of having to do this after every Avast program update.

I'm running WMP 11 on XP SP3 and no problem yet again. I've never seen it happen.

Cheers...

Just put the red skin on it and that's what it looks like. Those affected by the glitch can not change from that color.

2 of my 3 xp/pcs had this problem today and thanks to your help it's gone. I'll be ready for number 3 to go red.
