no one can give you a specific time schedule for a scan, because it depends on 2 things:
- system resources
- size of data which you scan with avast!

but i can give you an average time for a scan if you will give me the information needed for a decent answer.

Scanning speed will be different for everyone depending on your processor and how much stuff is stored on your system that avast is scanning, dont play with the default setting's and it shouldn't be too bad.

Well.If you choose quick scan your scan will be completed faster.Big ram or processor - Faster Scans.
My pc has 1 gb and the quick scan completes in about 3 mins and scans up to 100.000 files and folders.

Might be this is your first scan on a new install of Avast! you speak of?  If it is, Avast! has likely not populated its cache yet.  Once it has filled it up, subsequent scans are faster.  Avast!'s initial populating of the cache might also be part of the reason it is slow.

Scanning times even for a specific computer and a specific scan can vary quite a bit depending on whether you have other programs running at the time, what they programs are doing, how much page memory you using, etc.

On my system (details in my sig), a full system scan including default packers and PUPs of 10-11 gigs takes about 10-12 minutes, depending on how many changes there have been since the last scan which would require updating the persistent cache (I keep both caches active).  Allowing for my admittedly low RAM, that's probably reasonably consistent with other users' experiences.
Intel Atom D2700, 2 gig RAM, Win 7 x64 SP1 & IE-11, Firefox 51.0
(default). 320 gig HD, 15Mb DSL, Win firewall, Avast 12.3.2280 free, SpywareBlaster, MBAM Prem., Crypto-Prevent

If you want to have scan completed fast and your computer is fast then set scan priority to high.

One other suggestion, it does say somewhere (help files, maybe) that scanning is usually faster if you defrag first.
