Only thing I see there are a bounch of people talking without knowledge. And that is what got them into trouble the first place as it looks. I bet none of them even took the effort to do a little reading in Avast's manual or here to see what settings are appropiate for them ;)

2 million Avast users and 11.000 registers for the home version a day can't be wrong :D

Try to look at it from their perspective.

Avast fails when Brainbuster bot is removed by Spybot.

I think I will contact Spybot and ask why it picks up Brainbuster in the first place.

Then we need to figure out why removal of the Hkeys kills Avast.

Remember, people are entitled to their opinion.  Instead of slamming them, let's try to educate them.

Lets all try to research this Brainbuster think and get some definite information on it.

Come on A-Team.....Let's rock!

I sent similar PM like this one to Bob...

Brainbuster Brainbot - There is some guy calling himself Brainbuster. He made Brainbot. I'm not sure is it in any way related to his work (if we can even call it that name  ::), but anyway )... See here (please do some minor searching on that web site) :

http://brainbot.de.vu/

I wonder why some people have problems with SPYBOT recognizing Active Skin parts as spyware, and I never had any problems with spybot. It never found anything like that on my system. Of course I always have Spybot up to date, except I don't like to download beta definitions. I'm starting to think, that their systems are maybe infected with Brainbot... maybe it's attacking Active skin keys, who knows... someone who is infected will most likely have problems with Spybot detecting those keys as spyware...

Cheers !

I usually go here for much info on malware and preventives:

http://www.spywareguide.com/index.php

Brainbuster is not listed in their database which is one of the largest.

Send out email to vendor Spybot.  We'll let you know if I get a reply.

S.Z.C, if U dont check the option to download or check for beta definitions in spybot then U wont be affected by this prob, it only seems to happen with the beta ones.

I posted there as well as it was me that found the cause of it being the beta rules in spybot, didnt mean to come down on them, one comment that i quoted just annoyed me, thnk the guy said how do we know it aint Avast's fault despite all the evidence pointing to spybot.

BanziBaby,

Well, I think we can only say with definition that Spybot does detect the Brainbuster as spyware.

The problem still remaining is why removal shuts down Avast.

I am awaiting a reply from Spybot and Wilders Security on the subject.

Until then, I would stay away from any beta updates.

The programmers of Spybot S&D already fixed it. It should be solved with the next release of their database update.

HERE is the reaction of one of the Spybot s&d team.

I'm not sure it's an avast trouble... Spybot must correct its detection.
