Avast free + Malwarebytes free
« on: May 14, 2011, 07:57:47 PM »
Hello,

First I'd like to thank the developers of this great software for making a neat and free AV. ;)

I've been using Norton suite before and then McAfee.
When they expired, I switched to Avast after doing some research and found it the best replacement as a free tool.

However, (1) I'm finding it difficult to determine whether Avast alone is enough or not? ???
Also     (2) do I need to run Malwarebytes as well? (I just downloaded it today after reading that many users on this forum use that software)
         (3) What about firewalls, is Windows firewall enough?

P.S. I'm running Vista Home Premium 64x.

Any info, suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

MalwareBytes http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Super Anti-Spyware http://filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/

Both play well with avast. Another software that many of us use is CCleaner http://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Hope these links help.  :)
Dell Inspiron, Win10x64--HP Envy Win10x64--Both systems Avast Free v17.9.2322, Comodo Firewall v8.2 w/D+, MalwareBytes v3.0, OpenDNS, Super Anti-Spyware, Spyware Blaster, MCShield, Unchecky, Vivaldi Browser and, various browser security tools.

Many thanks for the replies.
And yes CCleaner is a good recommendation as I use it on daily basis.

The thing is would Avast and Malwarebytes conflict?
I mean does MalwareB run in the background or only when I manually perform a scan?

thanks!

It rather depends on which version you will use, mbam pro/free.

If MBAM free, then the short answer is NO.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

No.

Paid run in the background (resident, on access).
Free is only on demand (manual).
The best things in life are free.
