from the comparison chart provided by Microsoft, the IE9 seems to be better than Firefox4 with more safety features..................

Don't worry about what browser to use. What you need to worry about is "what plugin or activex that runing in your browser?"

Firefox 4 with noscript is the safest in my opinion, you can't really go wrong with it unless you allow scripts. You probably would also want adblock plus, Mcafee siteadvisor, Avast webrep, WoT and possibly an LSO deleter. That's what I use anyways and I literally have never been infected.

I never thought of that before, it acctually sound like a really good idea. IE9 seems to be safer than other browsers right now but that can change. Opera is deffinetally the most malware-prone browser.

In my opinion, both sandboxing and things like no script are overkill. When you search the web about the new browser versions, IE9 is rated very highly for security by almost every reviewer.

Should always be prefixed/suffixed with 'in your opinion.'

In my opinion as long as IE is so tightly integrated into the Operating System, has BHOs and uses activeX, there will be a risk, which is potentially greater than other browser (Chrome, Firefox, Opera). If you manage to exploit the IE browser you could have in effect exploited the OS.

I gave up on IE many years ago, but I'm forced to continue to update it because it is integrated into the OS you have to keep it up to date and get all the associated security updates for it.

Now the other browsers I mentioned are independent of the OS, not fully integrated and if you choose to abandon that browser for another, you don't have to keep getting updates for it for the life of your computer.

Hopefully the day will come when IE isn't integrated into the OS, then if you like it you can use it and switch browsers as things change and not be forced to continue with the updating of a browser you no longer use.

I like firefox but prefer IE9 because i dont have to go finding add on's to make things work, as for which one is less prone to virus attacks i think it is six of one and half a dozen of the other,it really comes down to better browsing habits and a decent security program.
Iv never been infected with IE 7,8,9 or firefox.
