Dave can only guess about it. ;)

Let him guess then, Asyn. Unless I'm OT - If so I apologize.

T.

Hi DavidR,
Do you think that it may be added to the Avast!UI in the near future?

Since I don't work for avast! I can't make predictions.

Only educated guesses (as Asyn suggests), so here it is; the avastUI has a limited amount of real estate so only issues which are more serious would have a higher priority for inclusion.

Since this issue clearly isn't one which effects all avast users (or there would be multitudes of topics on it) then it would have higher priority. If it it did effect lots of avast users the easiest option would be to extend the default delay not modify the avastUI. Since this can be addressed by a mod of the .ini file it also reduces the urgency/priority.

So that would be my guess as to why it isn't in the avastUI and why it probably won't make it any time soon.

Thanks, DavidR. Sorry but at first I thought you were somehow related to the Avast! team because of the "avast! Übertechnical"...
That was the main reason why I asked.

No problem, in the same location of the profile information in posts, you will see "avast! Team" for those that are avast! developers.

Also you might see "Moderator or Global Moderator," these positions are also filled by avast developers.

For the record...I did try to change my update settings to "Ask when update is available"...But doing that puts Avast into "Attention" mode...Putting it into a permanent state of what i consider to be false alarm...Messing up the Avast icon as if there is a dire problem...And warning me that i'm not fully protected...So rather than having the alarm status on all the time...thus having to ignore it...and possibly miss real problems that could occur...I am going back to automatic update...Even though it still completely hammers my system...

I tried to follow the instructions to fix the timing of the updates...But i messed it up and had to reinstall...I don't think i should have to go to all that trouble to get satisfactory performance from this product...I will wait and see if maybe a future update addresses this very annoying flaw in Avast.

Well I would suggest that you try it again, follow the instructions to the letter and a step at a time. But, before doing so make copy the avast5.ini and save it somewhere you can find it again, should you need to replace it.

Setting the updates to Ask, honestly won't make much difference as avast would still be checking for updates (but not downloading them) in order to Ask you. You can get rid of the ! over the icon by changing the AvastUI, Settings, Status Bar, Components Monitored, uncheck the Definitions auto updates option.

David R...I followed your advice and now am updating Avast manually...My laptop now gets going without delay and i can get right to work without the update hang...And without the Avast icon showing an alert...I think it'll be smooth sailing from here on...Thanks again for the advice!...It saves me some aggravation several times a day.

You're welcome.

Though I would have gone for the delay option as I like the auto updates, I don't forget that way ;D
