WebRep prevents IE from focusing on new tab
« on: May 21, 2011, 08:29:28 AM »
Just found this out (because I uninstalled the WebRep plugin):

With WebRep installed, when you open a link in IE9 using the middle mouse button (or with a right click) to have the link open in a new IE tab, the newly opened tab will not have the focus.
In order to scroll the page with the mouse wheel, you have to click on the tab to set focus first, and sometimes you really wouldn't want to do because you might accidently click on a link...

Until today I thought this was just bad IE9 behavior, but as soon as WebRep was uninstalled, the symptom disappeared. Without WebRep the new tab gets focus immediately upon opening.

Have not checked if this is the same in FF4 / Chrome.

Well in Firefox I have tab mix plus and that gives me focus option, on what I do to open a new tab.

For me if I open a new tab using the middle button it is added at the end of the tabs but not in focus (I'm going to be reading it later). If I click on the link it opens the tab at the end of the tabs (if it is an external link) but is in focus. For internal (same domain) it opens in the same tab and is obviously in focus.

So it appears to be working as I have it set in Firefox with tab mix plus.

Just changed the settings in tab mix plus so when I use the middle button on links, it opens in a new tab and it is in focus.

The IE 9 behavior was opposed to the IE settings. I had set the IE to set focus on newly opened tabs, however it did not happen with WebRep being active.

You sig says, that you use FF...
So don't worry too much about IE. ;)

I'm not worried at all, even less since I uninstalled WebRep completely.
However, I feel this is a bug and should not be. ;D
