Problem after installing AVAST
« on: May 21, 2011, 05:24:55 PM »
I receive the following message after installing AVAST.
I have reinitialized my laptop 3 times and it only happens after AVAST is installed.
When I open any application "The application failed to initialize properly (0X80000003). Click on OK to terminate the application."
Appreciate your help

Which was your previous antivirus, and how did you remove it?

Are you on Vista XP Win 7?  and what OS?
How do you connect to the internet?
         Which Firewall are you using?

Welcome to the forum

Usually this error code is associated with either remnants of a previous security software on your machine or malware, so we need to investigate further.

1.   What version of Avast did you install?
2.   What product of Avast did you install?  Free, Pro, AIS?
3.   What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past on this machine including:
- Antivirus (AV)
- Firewall (FW)
- Trial versions of AV, FW and other security programs
- Other security software (on-demand and resident)

- If they were in the past, how did you remove them (the vendor's uninstaller's tool or  another way)?

4.    Check your computer for malware with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM).
·   Download free http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (the blue button) for an on-demand scanner.
·   Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
·   After install, click update so you have latest database before scanning.
·   Under Settings:
o   General: Automatically Save File After Scan Completes is checked off
o   Scanner SettingsCheck all boxes
o   Updater: Download and install update if available is checked off
·   Once the program has loaded, select "Perform FULL Scan", then click Scan.
·   The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
·   When the disinfection scan is complete, a log will appear in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note).
·   Click the “remove selected” button to quarantine anything found.  You will find the infection details under the Quarantine tab.
·   The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
·   Copy & Paste the entire MBAM report in your next reply.

5.    Are you on a network?  If so, please run MBAM on each machine, when you post back, list them as machine #1, #2, #3.  If you have one machine that comes back infected, disconnect that machine from the network for now.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you.
