just downloaded.. installed and say what???
« on: October 14, 2004, 06:48:24 AM »
ok.. a few things...
I downloaded after reading a review of it.. vs AVG6.. so I installed it... (my drive was having problems...)
but when the drive went nutso.. I tried to remove it.. using your tool...
and lost my vid drivers! (running W98SE/P3-500/was on a 13Gb Maxtor.. and using ATI Rage Fury Pro)

Used GOBack to go back to when it was running... and restored it...

hopped over to a WD 80Gig i had just picked up and copied all the files.. or whatever could be copied by WD's Data Lifeguard.
Rebooted on the new drive.. and it working... (had a couple of odd things... like a BSOD on Windows.. hitting any key lets it actually load and run.. no problem..(working on it)  and ran Avast . re-set up the icons in the bottom.. and the VRDB...  and ran it on thorough Scan..
and ALARMs RING!! it found jao-dll as a virus...
couldnt delete it.. or repair  or move.. so used the delete on boot up...
that did it...
but on running again... got another two files  and again alarms... and all the choices....
  questions...
A: why could I not remove the program either from A/r or with your tool and not lose my Vid Settings???
B: I usually like to do a scan at nite.. or let the program run automatically (like AVG) and let IT delete the file...
it seem I have to be here to monitor the files???  can it be set to auto-delete/move whatever???

I decided to stay with Avast for the Email setup and the full time Customer Service I read about!

I would suggest you to use Add/Remove Programs and not avast! Uninstall Utility. Use it only if the first one fails.
I have also never heard about this utility corrupting video drivers (i also never had any such problem and i test antiviruses alot,so i use it regulary)
Or did you maybe used my avast! External Control Brutal Remove function?

A: This one is stil mistery to me.
B. Some features like scheduling and predefined on-detection commands are only available in avast! Pro. You don't need to run On-Demand every day. On-Access keeps you protected. Do it weekly.

Maybe Alwil staff can help you more about those technical problems.

A. Since your drive was having problems it could have been anything that caused it.

B. As RejZor said, some futures are only in Avast Pro. But if you wish to schedule a scan with Avast Home, you can use the task scheduler to do so.

Rob, like the others, I can't find a 'solution' for the driver corruption. Thanks to GoBack  ;), it saved my life either some times in the past.
Feel free to ask anything more about avast and welcome to the family  ;)
