Avast is not a valid win32 application.
« on: January 29, 2008, 02:55:10 PM »
Hi.
I did  a restart in my pc and now (for some reason) it say:
Alwin software/Avast4/ashAvast.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

The case is that I can not open the Avast and any other security program like :spyboat or other.

The virus cleaner tool (aswclnr Virus worm cleaner application) work and I did a scan.
The resoltes are:
****************************************************

C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB890859\SP2GDR\ntoskrnl.exe... file could not be scanned!
C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB890859\SP2QFE\ntoskrnl.exe... file could not be scanned!
C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB929338\SP2QFE\ntoskrnl.exe... file could not be scanned!
C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB931784\SP2QFE\ntoskrnl.exe... file could not be scanned!
C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$\ntoskrnl.exe... file could not be scanned!
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB890859$\ntoskrnl.exe... file could not be scanned!
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB890859_0$\ntoskrnl.exe... file could not be scanned!
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB929338$\ntoskrnl.exe... file could not be scanned!
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB931784$\ntoskrnl.exe... file could not be scanned!
C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\ntoskrnl.exe... file could not be scanned!
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\ntoskrnl.exe... file could not be scanned!
G:\PROGRAM FILES\register.exe... file could not be scanned!

************************************************

I can go one an delete this files but I read they do part of windows and may be corrupted and I don't want to go forward because I don't know very well what is this about.

I trough to re-install Avast again.
If is a virus or trojan will be in the pc and dont be recognized, I believe !

On other hand, I delete the suspected files that did this to happen and my pc are running with no problems.... (for now)

Any help ?
I can not be without protection on my PC.
How Urgent is that ??

Thanks in Advance.

@ alain.lubat,

Please open up a new thread as the one you posted in is from 2008.  You can cut and paste your post there and we will help you there.  Thank you.

Please also mention in your next post the following information:

1.  What version and product of Avast do you have on your machine?
2.  Did you scan your machine with Avast?  If so, is anything in the Virus Chest?  If yes, give us a screen shot of the Chest.
3.  How is your machine acting or behaving?  What problems are you having?

4. Check your computer for malware with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM).
·   Download free http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (the blue button) for an on-demand scanner.
·   Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
·   After install, click update so you have latest database before scanning.
·   Under Settings:
o   General: Automatically Save File After Scan Completes is checked off
o   Scanner SettingsCheck all boxes
o   Updater: Download and install update if available is checked off
·   Once the program has loaded, select "Perform QUICK Scan", then click Scan.
·   The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
·   When the disinfection scan is complete, a log will appear in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note).
·   Click the “remove selected” button to quarantine anything found.  You will find the infection details under the Quarantine tab.
·   The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
·   Copy & Paste the entire report in your next reply in your new thread.
