IE and All Windows components are not working after installation avast

Hi,

Today i have installed Avast free internet security 6.0.1125. OS is Windows vista Home Premium SP1 32 bit. After installing Avast my IE,Windows Media Player and all other windows components are not working. If i uninstall Avast then IE and Everything working fine. Please suggest me how to avoid this issue guide me to solve this problem.

Update your Vista to SP2.

Did you do your avast install after the upgrade to SP2 as a clean install of avast would be required,  also what other security is on your system ( spyware? av? firewall? ) if you have just changed av's recently how did you remove your prior av? did you use the av vendors removal tool.
