Help if possible customizing site block feature
« on: June 09, 2011, 05:54:39 PM »
Hello,
First off I would like to say that I am deeply thrilled with Avast 6.0 and the introduction of the Site Blocking feature. However, my kids are far too intelligent for there own good and have figured out how to 'avoid' this feature so I am trying to find a way to outsmart my kids.... which is proving to be a very difficult task.

The site I am trying to block is facebook.com for many reasons I will not get into at the moment. Entering and enabling the site to be blocked is just as easy as deleting it from the list and it being unblocked. They know to access avast since the facebook page now shows:

avast! has blocked access to the site (based on a user-defined list of blocked URL

The little gremlins now know that avast has blocked it so they go into the program and delete the site from being blocked. Its one of those times when someone would say you have very intelligent children and I'd reply "Unfortunately so..."

I suppose its a loss cause and too much to ask but I figured I'd play all my cards before giving up on the issue, I could possible be overlooking something.  What I would like to do is either password protect the entries (unlikely) or if there was a way to change the message on the page to something that does not point to avast as causing it to be blocked but instead shows site is down or something. My other thought would be if avast popped up a 'fake trojan' where the red message on bottom right pops up as it will on an actual infected site and scare a person away from accessing it. Not sure if any of this is possible but again I am throwing this out there to see what advice you can give.

Thanks.

You dared to block Facebook, has their head exploded yet, has the sky fallen?  ;D

But yeah, as igor said, password protecting Avast! seems your best option.
