I'm not, have used google mail, and still do for it's storage.

I understand google is now offering a network solution add in to servers for search facilities.

I use google mail for my "throw away email" addresses, I prefer not to use it's search engine to index my hard-drive and include it with my web searches to serve me with adverts.  I also don't use the "toolbar" for the same reason.

I love my gmail but, didn't need something else to drain resources.
I use Turbo Searcher for my harddrive searches and don't need to serch my e-mail or chats.

Thanks Eddy...
Are that sites talking 'seriously' or they're just making advertisement of concurrent programs?  ::)

Those where serious websites about security. Can't remember their names unfortunatly My mind is playing tricks with me again :-( It could be however that Google fixed it. That is info I don't have.

Have a look at the results a google search gives INFO

Connie: Thank you for the link. I had heard a segment on NPR (National Public Radio) about gmail, stating what this link confirms. For similar reasons I will pass on Google's hard drive index service also.

Here's another in depth article about Google's new Desktop Search feature: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6276929/  I found it quite helpful.

Excellent article Gene.
Since the Google Desktop Search stores everything on your computer, it's a good backup of your information provided, there aren't any security issues invoved. Just make sure you have lots of storage space.

My personal opinion is -- don't use the Google desktop search tool.  I feel that it has potential to invade your privacy.

Read:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/10/15/google_desktop_privacy/

and:

For now I'll continue to use the built in Find tool (found in the Windows OS).

(I've been using networked computers since the early 1970s... Over the years I've seen way too many "neat little programs" that end up covertly relaying your data to 3rd parties... call me paranoid now.)
