BSoD w/aswsnx.sys Windows XP
« on: June 16, 2011, 05:48:50 AM »
Sorry Fellows, but I have this recurrent problem: at least once everyday

Windows XP
Avast Free 6.0.1125
I already try switching off autosanbox

I uploaded to the FTP site: Giturralde 0611 minidump.zip

thanks

If you didn't give more info to uniquely identify your upload:
e.g. - Upload any minidump or memory.dmp files, zipped to reduce size.  Give the zip file you are uploading a unique name (as you have), so they can identify it. It might not be a bad idea to create a text file (readme.txt) with any relevant information, plus avast topic URL, user name, etc. etc. in the zip file.

Did switching off the autosandbox not resolve this ?

OK, I contacted one of the developers and they have seen this before.

I saw this before - it's a conflict between avast and Diskeeper, would you
mind generate kernelmode dump? So I can see exact filename buffers.

So if you can change your Startup and Recovery settings, System Properties (Control Panel, System) and set it to generate a Kernel Memory Dump, see image. Enable the autosandbox again and as and when you get a BSOD if you can do the same again and upload the memory.dmp file zipped.

I found the problem, thanks.
There was a bug in dynamic disks parsing (which you probably use). This will be fixed in next program update (next week).

Thanks for the response.

I already generated a Kernel Memory Dump: MEMORY.DMP, but the file has 218Mb!!, it is normal?? and the file compressed have 60Mb, so I don´t think possible for me upload that file, not enough bandwith.

But if this its a conflict with Diskeeper,I prefer uninstall Diskeeper  ;D and see how is going.

Thanks again

The fastest method is:
- turn avast self-protection off (Settings -> Troubleshooting -> turn "Enable avast! self-defense module" off")
- regedit.exe -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\services\aswSnx, change Start value from "1" to "4"
- reboot
(now autosandbox, sandbox, safezone will be disabled)

when you update your avast, this driver will be enabled automatically.

You probably use "dynamic disks"
Start->Run: type "compmgmt.msc"; click on "Disk Management", in Type column you have probably something different than "Basic"... There's no big deal you use dynamic disks, see: http://www.petri.co.il/difference_between_basic_and_dynamic_disks_in_windows_xp_2000_2003.htm
