1. avast for Linux Workstations (scheduled for the end of the year -- and most likely, togher with a free home version) WILL have a GUI, of course. Here're some preliminary screenshots.

2. Actually porting to non-x86 platforms is now a bit closer. At least I do have a pretty good idea about how to overcome the limitation. But it's still a matter of years to make avast for Mac/Solaris/AIX etc. a reality.

No, it says SIMPLE USER INTERFACE... doesn't say anything like "Graphical User Interface"... it means just simple interface. You can make very simple interface containing very advanced graphics. Of course, there is no need for that, but still...  ;)
