Hack attempt but kind of funny
« on: June 13, 2011, 12:50:27 AM »
I play World of Warcraft and like everyone else who does, I get emails that are purportedly from Blizzard saying things like my account has been suspended or is about to be and I'm supposed to respond with an email or a visit to a certain website where I will be required to give all my info to "verify" my account. I retrieve all my email with Outlook Express and when I see anything suspicious, or anything purportedly from Blizzard, I always check the details in the mail header. Frequently I see that the mail originated from a Hotmail address and / or has been sent by Outlook Express or some other client that I know Blizzard would not use. I got one today and while reading the header I saw that the true return path of the email was this.

It made me laugh.

Oh yeah, it's nothing new. I get two or three mails every day purporting to be from Blizzard and none of them are. I have been getting them for years since I've been playing WoW since 2005. My account was actually stolen one time and I still don't know how they did it. It took me a week to get everything restored by Blizzard and I then added an authenticator to the account. I never had any alerts from my protection at the time which was the full Comodo suite and no other scanners ever found anything. I had not gone to any fake sites either so like I said, I have no idea how they did it.

This one I posted about was just the most obvious fake and the funniest one.

No I get ya, it just seems that Tom's posted about it because it's becoming a large topic in the recent days.

I assume they just guessed your password, besides hacking the database, that's the only way they would have got it.  I mean, if you were protected by Avast of course.  ;D

XD  That's absolutely hilarious.  I can't relate too much though, because I never played WoW, though I know what you are talking about.  I used to always stick to text-based MUDs. . Oh, yea. .  8)  (I know. . lame, right??  :-P)

I know such stuff is funny for us
But you guys have to remember that there are people like us who
are not so easy to trick and people who have no idea what is going on
I bet there is always somebody who falls into the trick and then it has
been worth it for the hacker
