Lots of trouble getting avast to work with ubuntu.
« on: July 03, 2011, 11:46:49 PM »
Try to install it, "Wrong architecture 'i386'"

So I use "sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb" based on information here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=41709.0 to force its installation.

So I installed it, and it loaded, but when I tried to update it, it gave the following errors shown in the screen shot.

So I found this thread http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=57775.0 and followed its instructions, but when I try to load avast, it just says "An error occurred in avast! engine: Invalid argument"

So I uninstalled avast, which was very difficult, with lots of help I found "sudo dpkg -r avast4workstation:i386" worked.

Then reinstalled it, same problem. So I uninstalled it then rebooted, then reinstalled it, same problem.

I just can not seem to get avast to work on my ubuntu 11.04!

Are you doing it right? Just do as suggested here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=57775.msg487963#msg487963 and restart the system. Then open avast again.
