Avast & Outlook Express ....
« on: June 28, 2011, 11:43:36 PM »
Just downloaded Avast today.  :)

Seems that the newest version has some issues with Outlook Express.

I think the Avast pop-up said something about switching off the SSL/TLS? The pop-up only came up once and hasn't appeared again.

But I went ahead and changed my email account settings ... hopefully disabling the SSL ...

I've made sure that my Avast 'Mail Shield' is running.

Should I also be changing something in the 'expert settings'? If so, what to? ...

Do I need to do anything else?

Please keep it basic guys. It should be fairly obvious I'm not tech savvy.  ???

Thanks

You shouldn't need to do anything else.

Does it now work ?
If not - what is the full text of the error (or screenshot) of the error message ?

This is not a new issue it has been this way from avast5, so if you had a previous version of avast this should already have been working ?

I thought everything looked okay. But then I restarted my computer, went into Outlook again and got the same Avast pop-up ...

So no idea what I'm supposed to do now.  ???

And I have had previous versions of Avast, but not Avast 5.

Any thoughts???

Does that account actually require SSL to connect ?

If yes, then check your OE account properties, Servers tab and ensure that the Log on using Secure Password Authentication is also unchecked.
