I didn't know MSE was a 'memory sucking slug' lol.

MSE is no 'memory sucking slug'.

MSE is an excellent anti-virus.

It's every bit as good as avast!

Unfortunately some avast! fanboys at times turn into trolls and attack good programs. ::)

rdmaloyjr you've been dancing for to long and you still can't lay an egg while standing up at the same time, before you even noticed the MSE resource sucking slug before sticking your bum down half way from the ground ;D

I don't mean to promote another a/v on avast!'s forum, but trolls need to be put in their place.

I don't like to call anyone a troll, but they need to be woke up to what they are becoming.

rdmaloyjr its physically impossible to say that MSE is as good as avast when with all the tests out there prove its detection capabilities fall short of avast, updates only once a day if you get them with slow scanning speed and to run both av's on seperate systems side by side it's clearly easy to see which one is sucking up more resources, you need to wake up and smell the roses.
MSE would be my second choice for a free av but that exactly what it is ( second choice ).

craigb,

First, I have no desire to argue with you or anyone else.

My nephew used to use avast!, but got infected.

Avast! removed the infection with a boot-time scan,

but couldn't clean up from the infection leaving

him in a in an endless cycle of reboots.

He switched to MSE, MSE cleaned up his system.

He hasn't been infected since.

He likes social networking sites, always on them.

I'm sure you are aware of the dangers on those sites.

BTW, he still goes to the site where he was infected, but doesn't get infected now.

Tests can be and are manipulated to get the results they want.

I prefer real-world experiences. ;)

The thread was about winpatrol.

I used to have regular problems with the scotty icon not appearing in user accounts on my 64bit system. When scotty icon was there the winpatrol explorer interface often wouldn't open.

Since uninstalling comodo FW/D+ and reinstalling winpatrol I have had no further problems

I'm quite often asked about the other free av programs and usually answer this way,

"Nothing wrong with "what ever antivirus", I just think avast! is better and it's
protected my systems since 2003."

By the way, I also recommend Winpatrol I've used it even longer than avast!  :)

Bob,

I use & recommend WinPatrol, also.

My sister uses avast! on her XP computer.

It's down now, she called, wants me to fix it. ::)
