Restarting "Adrift at sea" following update
« on: July 05, 2011, 07:40:37 PM »
Does anyone know how to get Avast to start up again after being "Adrift at sea" and when the "Fix it" and "Start program" buttons do not work? Help would be greatly appreciated, as the update thus far appears to have killed Avast. The repair function in Windows has not helped.  :(

if buttons don't work anymore and the repair function doesn't either, re-install from scratch, there's no other way.

ps: just make sure before you do that that stopping/restarting Avast services doesn't help (from Windows management console).

Thank you for this suggestion. I've been trying to uninstall the current version of avast, but even the uninstall program tells me that 'avast has stopped working' and it subsequently isn't uninstalled.

Use the Avast removal tool, that will completely remove it. Look for it on the Avast web site.

Thank you! The Uninstall Utility route worked. (If others have this problem: then download free version, and if applicable request new license key and insert this new key - old key did not work.)

Thanks again for all help!
