Avast acting up.

Less then an hour after booting it for the first time. I can't even use it anymore.
I installed avast, first thing I did. The program refuses to start, blurts out some side by side configuration error and that I have to use something called "sxstrace.exe". I also installed Google Chrome with it since it was included. That doesn't boot either. I can't uninstall them either and now booting is slow and windows crashes.

What the hell happened?!

My laptop has a freaking i7 processor, yet it takes AGES to do anything. It was fine before I volunteered to install the Avast (anti)virus. I have used Avast for eons on my stationary yet this happens now.

Before blaming avast for your problem did you happen to remove to pre installed anti-virus from your laptop before installing avast ?

You can uninstall avast with this tool from safe mode http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe then reboot back to normal mode and proceed to programs and features and uninstall your preinstalled AV and reboot then run the removal tool from here http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ to clean up remnants of pre AV

Side-By-Side Configuration is Incorrect Error - You need to install MS Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable.

You need 2008 SP1 - this is the one:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update

Okay I may have been a wee bit angry. Not entirely avasts fault and I am fixing it right now. Still, I find it odd that avast died.

Also, the laptop only came with some sort of webshield. Now that I think of it I was kind of multitasking so I may have been uninstalling it at the same time. Eitherway, this shouldn't happen since it was just that, a webshield. I didn't even activate it.

Avast didn't start but I will just reinstall it now. Sadly, it appears that my laptop has issues that came with it. Explorer.exe is constantly crashing. Gonna have to see why that is happening. Otherwise it is all good.

What a major surprise. A pre-installed program was the culprit behind all of my woes. ASUS webstorage messes with the explorer and causes it to crash. Removed it and now all is well!  ;D

Glad you solved the problem  :)

Iv got an Asus myself so if you ever want to know what pre installed programs are safe to get rid of then just ask here  ;)
