At the time of my last post, aswMBR was still in the early stages of its scan, so I could not upload anything yet.
<snip>
I have attached the aswMBR log, as it's finally finished.  Starting MWBAM!
It's clean.Any other problems?

I'm not so sure it looks clean, this I believe needs further investigation:

Could be that there is a TDL rootkit

Amalia said she is free of problems,so i guess/hope it's gone.

Amalia could also upload her MBR.dat to www.virustotal.com,so we can determine whether it's infected or not.

Probably it may be usefull to make check by TDSSKiller. The fresh version of it can deal with some occurences of new SST rootkit.

I don't think this is what he might be after as they are looking for the new variant and the aswMBR is reporting the default windows MBR, so it can't be that, it would at least be reporting Unknown MBR code...

Amalia could also upload her MBR.dat to www.virustotal.com,so we can determine whether it's infected or not.

Or it could be well hidden or a failed installation of the malware (also happens).

Whilst it won't hurt, I would be very surprised if much came out if this isn't something I would expect many standard AV scans to be looking for much less pick up.

But the virus was active so i wouldn't say it's  failed installation.Nevertheless let's wait for Essex,he is always right ;D.

Was, is the operative word, any subsequent inactivity may have been partial cleaning, which is why I said right off that it needs further analysis as the aswMBR report wasn't 100%.

Hi Amalia how is your computer behaving at the moment ?

Could you open Avast and go to Maintenance > Virus chest
Right click anywhere on the white space and select add
Then navigate to C:\_OTS\moved files and locate the zipped folder, open it up and add the files one at a time to the chest
Once done then from the virus chest right click the files and select > send to virus lab.
On the form put down as potential malware
Once they are all done then invoke a manual update to upload them

Thank you for getting back to me.  My system appears to be operating quite normally.

I attempted to follow your instructions, but either something is wrong, or I do not understand how to accomplish this.  I went to Avast's virus chest, selected "Add", and located the zipped folder you mentioned.  Double-clicking it through Avast does not work; it behaves as if I have tried to add the entire compressed folder to the chest, though of course, nothing shows up.

Am I meant to decompress the folder and then add the items?  This seems inadvisable if it is full of viruses, but I am uncertain how to go about this.
