4.5 (same 4.1) and IM shield
« on: October 27, 2004, 10:09:24 PM »
When You using IM shield and enable mIRC protection ...

then Avast will be scanning EVERY write into log files made by mIRC (i even tried put the directory mIRC\logs and *.log located there to ignore ...)

but they keep scanned, it's huge resource (slow down on each write) hog ...

imagine this especially when you have open 5+ IRC server seach with 5+ window and each is saved to log ...

only way how get rid of this issue is disable IM protection for mIRC !

I doubt this would slow down anything.

We'll see what we can do.
Scanning the log over and over indeed could slow things down, especially if it's big.

Just an idea. Have the IM provider(s?) also look at the excluded list. So that it does not scan files mentioned there.

note: I am also using mirc and have logs over 15Gb in size, but it is not slowing down here. At least not noticeble. But I guess it depends on the system used and what else is running.

the slowdowns are not so big problem until you are doing something bit more CPU extensive (e.g. playing games, rendering, video editing) ...

also it's not problem until it's more than 5-10 logs saved simultaneously
