Fix Now
« on: July 16, 2011, 06:10:24 AM »
If My Free Avast says "Unsecured" and FIX NOW, and URGENT, AVAST Service stopped, does that mean that I have to upgrade to continue service, because my free service has run out, or does that mean I still have it, but something is wrong with my computer? HELP!

No, Avast! hardly practices such scare tactics.  But something is amiss with your install.  If the Fix button does not work, try a repair, start this as though you are going to uninstall Avast! normally, but choose the repair option.

My year hasn't run out and I get the same message:
there's an exclamation mark on the tray icon
then the same as the OP
looking at the Shields, they are all flagged as running but the warning says that the Web Shield is off
the Fix button works - or it at least removes the exclamation mark.

This is intermittent, perhaps 2 or 3 times a week after booting. I wonder if it's caused by using various cleaners, including CCleaner, so that something is removed.

Biff & Girrafe.

Did you have another anti virus program previous to avast? before installing avast BIFF i need to know what op system you are using?. If you had ariva or norton/symantec/macafee you will need to use their removal tools.

My system is above; no other AV for months now and I do remove them completely, not just the uninstall utility.

Repair avast:
1. Control Panel - Add/Remove programs - avast!
2. Scroll down and click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
W8.1 [x64] - Avast Free AV 23.3.8047.BC [UI.757] - Firefox ESR 102.9 [NS/uBO/PB] - Thunderbird 102.9.1

Hi there...thanks. I only had Avast, and had re-registered for the free 2nd year. Not sure what is going on. I also went to remove programs and clicked on repair, and got this message: Error processing packages, please use full update. I appreciate all of you helping me.

Do what it says, then try a reinstall if that fails.

Maybe it would be best to simply (re)download the latest stable free version of Avast from Avast's website and use the new setup.exe to (re)install. Then REBOOT and wait for the database to be updated automatically.

This should repair your installation and update the database too.
