Marc, ashmaisv.exe is the email Service (scanner).
If you use Thunderbird ashMaiSv is a service that must load at startup (in fact, the method could be 'manual').
Look:
Start Menu
All Programs
Administrative Tools
Services  ;)

For some reason, in the limited account it is set on Manual in Services but also in HKCU in the registry.  Does that make sense?  I'll log on tomorrow as Administrator and see what it's set as in Services.

Should it be on Automatic?

Thanks,

I don't have an entry for it into HKCU  ??? ::)

No. Manual is the default and how it works, started by the email application.
