Two questions about Avast before I purchase it
« on: August 08, 2011, 07:15:52 PM »
This question is directed at those of you using the paid-for version of Avast Internet Security.

I have two questions that do not seem to be covered in the FAQ or knowledge base. I am considering switching my personal internet security software product from AVG to Avast. This would cover two home servers and about a ten or twelve computers. One of the many annoying "features" that irks me about AVG is that the entire software, not just the virus definition updates, shuts down if you do not renew in a timely manner. I paid for the software, I expect my firewall and anti-virus to continue to work, even if I cannot get updates to the latest virus definitions, long after I stop paying for the subscription service.

My first question is: Could you tell me if Avast internet security suffers the same slimey up-sell issue of shutting down the entire software package if the anti-virus subscription is not renewed?

My second question is: Is there nag-ware up-sell for other products buried within Avast Internet Security. Again, another direction AVG is going in that I am not happy with as I do not want or need their "PC Analyzer" or "PC Cleanup" trial-ware products?

It comes down to either biting the bullet and renewing with AVG whom I am not happy with in the least and have quickly relegated to the "Symantec" camp of useless, annoying products or going with Avast as the only viable alternative.

The only cross-product thing you will notice is during install, Avast! asks if you want to install Chrome.

Thanks for the fast replies guys. :)

I installed the trial version of Avast! and it looks like I answered the second question myself. No nagware that I can see.

I even get a fully configurable software firewall so that makes me happy.

Got the credit card on my desk so I am off to buy a dozen CPU licenses and two home server licenses to cover the next three years for my home.

Waving bye-bye to AVG and their up-sell and their "shutdown all protection if you don't pay us" subscription program.

I can invite you to look the video too. Its can give you a good view of the SafeZone on how its work and how its work without it. ;D

AVG can be a pain to completely remove so here's a link that should help.

By the way, I'm pretty sure you will like avast more than AVG.
