This application meant for someone who:
1. Having little knowledge of how to download and installing update.
2. Ignorant of updating their software.
3. Lazy

That must be me then - I have it.

I use it once a month to check that I have succeeded in keeping everything up to date. It takes about 2 minutes.

Occasionally it finds something that I haven't updated.

It also sometimes finds older versions (often of flash) that weren't removed despite me having updated.

I think I'll keep it.

I have it and I'm not lazy nor have little knowledge about updating software but is good at finding old remnants of Flash that are not properly removed.

Thanks for all your replies. I agree that it is probably more use to the novice user and yes nearly all programs will display a pop-up when an update becomes available. I think it's more useful for people who want their programs constantly monitored and updated automatically.

Personally, i prefer to be alerted by the program itself when an update is available and install it myself.

Although i also agree it is very good on the flash updates and alerts you of an update even before Adobe does.

Agree.
But seems too much for just flash... a resident for only flash remains? ???

I can't understand what has happened to the tray icon of my Secunia PSI. It doesn't change its colour and there are no pop-ups saying how many per cent of updated programmes I have.
May the FOSS be with you!

Move your mouse pointer over the tray icon and it will show you the Secunia PSI score then start it to see what you need updated.

I don't have automatic program update running using Secunia PSI, I prefer to have a little warning to remind me to update while I manually do it that way so I know what's been updated onto my PC without knowing behind my back ;)

It safer than been sorry ;) :D

The tray icon must change its colour depending on the score but in my tray it remains red. When I opened the main window it shows that I have 100%. And the pop-up only says: "Secunia PSI Tray".
May the FOSS be with you!

I don't always run secunia, and I don't have it running in the background, but it's a fantastic piece of software. Not just for beginners btw... it will indeed avoid you the hassle to check every single programs that does not auto update, and there are quite a few... most of them.

important: this situation should take an end with Windows 8 and Windows Store ;)
