So if you did what I suggested on november 1st, (following the steps on my page) it would have been gone from your system already. ;)

How to remove it manually can be found HERE

i remember running spybot on the 28th October, and it said "no threats had been found".

I have tried alternative spyware removers such as "spy sweeper". It gave a 6 day free trial, it found altnet, I scanned twice and removed it twice but it simply showed up, yet again

Spy Sweeper stated that it deals with altnet:

I also tried:

Are you sure you used the latest version of Spybot s&d? Did you check for updates to the database before running it?

If for some reason the build in update doesn't work, you can download the latest definations from HERE

If you start Spybot s&d, click on "help" than on "info". There you can see what latest update you have installed.

i am using v1.3, i always check for updates on adaware, spy bot and spyware blaster every day. So it is up to date.

By the way, thank you for all your help so far!

If Spybot S&d Doesn't remove it, then you'll have to do it the hard way.
I believe that the info you received from Eddy and me mention the same information. It's easy enough to compare the lists.
If you still don't want to do it manually, you may have to purchas one of the commercial products.

I couldn't get rid of Altnet in the registry until I right clicked on the key and found a way to change permissions.
i.e. "take ownership", which finally did the trick.
Before that I tried many things including:
Removing Kazza, which is where it came from.
Deleting directories called Altnet. Bullguard.
Deleting other registry keys to
do with Altnet, P2P, Bullguard.
Emptying all temporary directories.
Adaware now runs clean for me.

Hello Omar I had exactly the same problem as you, one of the posts (Putbogey)said that they had changed the permissions and then the key deleted I tried this but it still would not delete. However it was my son that installed kazaa in His own user name so I logged on in his user name and then went into the registry using regedit i searched for Altnet and right clicked on the key and deleted it. I then logged off and logged in using my user name had a look in the registry and at ad gone and its clear using ad aware etc. So if there is more than one user login on your computer then try logging in on one of them and try deleting it there.Surpringly in my user login there was only the one reference to Altnet but in my sons login in the registry there were still many references to Kazaa Altnet etc etc so it seems that you have to delete it from each user login as well. Hope this helps

Arash:
Welcome to the forum.
That program is not free. Regedit would also do the trick provided you follow the directions outlined in the beginning of this thread. Back up your registry before you start.
