Menu cursor changes

I have always had this with avast and don't understand why the cursor changes from a pointer to this.

Never happened (or happens) to me.

Although, if I take a screenshot and open it into an image tool, when the mouse is over the picture (in all parts of it) I see that pointer.

I have two PC's, each has different versions of avast, both do the same thing.

See movie showing when it happens.

Extremely weird  :P
Sorry, can't imagine what is happening. For me, the cursor is the same all the time. Does this happen with any other program, specially context menus?

That is a  "move"  mouse pointer   :)

My other half changed mice and the new one does that at times...    might wanna check mouse settings ?      Maybe a new driver for it?

No, the only program this happens in is avast.  I also notice that it happens on some friends computers, also only in avast.

There are times when it shows a hand pointing instead of the pointer, then changes to the cursor that is used for moving or resizing.

PC's are set to use standard cursors, never changed any cursor settings.

I have the latest drivers.  This happens on a brand new PC too.

humm well.. it has nothing to do with Avast  :)     Its not on his computer  (company pc...  they want Norton on it)...  and it does that on his... I recognized it right away.     It IS  a pointer.. and there has to be a setting someplace for that...

try changing the sensitivity... speed.. acceleration...     it was annoying him and we found that helped some..     Otherwise just abit of a press on the mouse would cause that (it would think you want to move something instead of point)

What type of mouse do you have???    Is it Optiical?
Using Mouseware 9.76?
If not.. update to that here:

 http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/downloads/categories/US/EN,CRID=1792

be sure to check the correct version of your operating system on that page  :)

Try another mouse theme and see if it happens again.

I experience the same problem that A61 experiences.

It happens on both my Win 98SE and Win98 systems.

The problem occurs on both avast 4.1 and beta 4.5.  I'm using a logitech wheel mouse, using standard MS drivers.

From my experience, you won't see the move cursor the first time you go into the settings menu, but it will show up after about the 2nd or 3rd time you open up the settings menu.

I think what is happening is that when you open up the settings menu, that menu overlays ontop of the area where the avast main default skin is... and below that area (on the bottom left of the skin where it says Avast!) is where the move cursor normally shows up when you want to move the skin around on the desktop... but if you toggle back and forth from the skin to the settings menu, the move cursor gets stuck and won't toggle off to the normal mouse pointer whilst in the settings menu.

This did happen when I had Windows 98se, and still happens with XP Pro SP1 & SP2.  Also happens on XP Home SP1 & SP2.

I use the Logitech Trackball on both PC's...also just reinstalled the latest drivers.
Tried different mouse themes.
Tried changing mouse settings.
Tried different avast skins.
None of these things helped.

I think mouse pointer chaning is built into the avast program.  It depends on what skin you are using but you can see the mouse change to different cursors as you move around the program, especially the 'shadow first' skin.  Sometimes when you first start the program it seems ok, but if you open and close the menu it starts to get buggy.

Just curious. What happens if you hookup a "old" serial mouse?
