Hi SKY,

Please be careful!

interesting how much your posts (I am not saying general, but at least for this topic) deal with what I said :) Is it that kind or argumentation you pull in, when you don't know what to post either (or let's call it running out of arguments)? I thought you said "Bye" the post before? ;)

Coming back to the topic...

Quote from: momaru
Even though the cost of a newer system is generally less expensive today, some people may not find it cost effective to purchase something newer or may not have money to invest in a new system. There are people who only need to perform very basic tasks on the computer and running a older system with an older operating system may work for them. With older systems, it may be better to stay with the original operating system, than to install a newer OS that may be more resource intensive.

As for viruses on older insecure OS, the user will have to be a bit more diligent on what they do on the system. In general, anti-virus programs are not perfect, it really doesn't matter what OS is used, the end user still has to be careful of what they do on the system (internet, copy files, etc..)

Generally I agree with you. You may not see it as a requirement to upgrade to a newer system, when everything seems perfect and you get along quite good with your system. I also very much agree with you when it comes to the point that anti-virus products are not perfect and the user should be careful in his actions. However that applies for every operating system, regardless of the support status. If you compare Win2000 to WinXP there was almost no real difference in the consumption of hardware resources. Some even might say that with WinXP they "felt" a lot faster (but I have to admint that this may be just a feeling). However the real point is the support. A lot of people insist on others seeking support here to install the latest Service Pack and patches for there OS, if they didn't do already. If the support seeking people disagree on that, it often ends up in a discussion and a strong disagreement from the helpers side. With Win2K it is no different. It is like you avoid installing the latest service pack for your system...you have to be aware that the chance being hit by an infection is much higher than with a patched system. I agree that you would have to pay a small fee for this major "upgrade", but this is really small compared to some other stuff which people put money in and it is very unlikely that a) WinXP won't install due to not supported hardware and b) it would perform less good, at least from what I experienced years ago on many other computers. I don't want to talk people in on something, I just make a recommendation, maybe you can call it a "warning note". Nothing more, nothing less. What they do about it is up to them.

And I am also very grateful to AVAST team that they fix problems so fast, even the system is outdated.

@avast.de

Sorry, but imho you haven't really arguments.
What you write is common gossip without an evidence of competence.
Do you really think, that anybody of the W2k-users is impressed of these phrases?

You're a reseller who wants to sale his goods. That's ok, but that's all!

Every support ends sometimes, for W7 too.
That's life, isn't it?
This is a forum where members of the avast!-team read and write, too.
So we can write down our wish, that the support of W2k goes on. We needn't ask you for that. Really!
And when we discuss this, we want to do that with official members of the avast!-team.
You really have a nice avatar, but sorry, in fact you're NOT one of these guys from the team.

And because of that, I don't want to discuss with you further here. OK?!

PS:
You edit your post #113 more than once, but you don't mark this (for example: "Edit").
I think, every member of this community has the right to see, what changes you made.

That's a form of courtesy!

Try it-it's not so difficult!

Wish you a nice day.

For me the discussion WITH YOU finally ends at this point... :-X

Hello,

What you write is common gossip without an evidence of competence.

Proof me wrong instead of just yelling "it is common gossip". Even if it would be "common gossip", sometimes even "gossip" has truth in it.

Fact 1: Just compare vulnerabilities detected in Windows XP, which also affect Windows 2000, since Microsoft dropped support on Windows 2000 last year. You will find that patches were released for Windows XP, but not for Windows 2000, to fix them. If you call that "common gossip" then it may be OK for you, but maybe not for others.
Fact 2: Furthermore I gave the argument that also third party vendors drop support sooner or later. Best example (to stay on topic) is AVAST itself with avast! Internet Security.

I don't see the sense of a forum of impressing anyone (but maybe you have a different understanding). Furthermore there is nothing new in my statements anyway, you can read up this information on a thousand places all over the net.

Maybe you should take a look in our shop...do you find that we are selling XP licenses there? If you are searching for arguments so desperately you should take more time, to do some research in the first place.

Correct, that means on the other hand I don't need your permission write anything here either.

What has my avatar to do with that. The avatar itself states that we sold the most copies of AVAST products within the last year, nothing more. I am wondering where you see the relation to the team of the vendor itself, the avatar explicitly contains the word "reseller"?

EDIT: I just read your speech you made two days ago in the German part of this forum, where you thank your invisible audience for supporting you by private messages in regards of the discussion with me. You imply that I want to be "a big shot", that I would be shortly before a heart attack, you call this big cinema and that you laughed deliciously about this.

I can assure you that even if I reply to you in a detailed fashion and take my time to answer, it doesn't create any more agitation on my side than cleaning the dishes would do. I think your above implications show that instead of delivering good arguments, you do what most people do, when they are running out of good ones: They get down to a personal base and try everything to embarrass the others with that. I feel sorry for you that you need to lower down the discussion to that kind of level and I am also asking myself, if you really think that this is convince people, that I am a bad guy? In the end we are all one avast! family, try to support the product and make recommendations to people, to secure their systems. You should take a short minute to think about that.

Quote

That's perfectly OK with me, it doesn't make sense if one side doesn't reply on arguments made before anyway. But you mentioned that earlier as well, I would prefer if you would stay with your decision rather than coming back again and again...with no arguments.

Sorry, maybe we find someone who can make a Groklaw-kind-of documentation for you, if you are so offended by this. But anyway...it is nice to see that you spend some time to analyze my posts so deeply, at least I can assured of your full attention ;)

So anyone have any idea when this serious issue will be fixed?  I've used Avast for years and I'm about to jump ship to another program because this is still a huge issue.  The conflicts this is causing on my PC (XP SP2) makes it practically unusable at this point.

This thread was about an update problem that affected strictly Win 2K users.  So whatever problem you are having, this one is in no way related.  Please start your own topic in the Free/Pro/Suite section if you need assistance.

This happened to me just today, I tried shutting down and rebooting to no avail. I tried repairing it from the control panal and no help there.  I then went back to control panel and clicked on change/remove, I then clicked on 'change' and it automatically updated my VPS files, that sorted it.  I'm doing a system check and all seems well so far.  Hopefully it wont happen on further updates.  Hope this might help some.
