Installation error; Win98 Error #82

Hi,
I need help.  I'm trying to install Avast 4 but keep getting an error #82:

an error 82(00000052) has occured.
Last performed operation was:
extracting main exe

after clicking 'ok' the whole install operation is aborted.  My system confirguation is:
Compaq Deskpro 575 (running at 120mhz)
80mg RAM
40 gigHD, CD, 3.5 DD
SVGA, Compaq 171FS monitor
Win98

I've tried re-downloading the program.  I'm running AlarmZone Firewall and no other anti-virus program.  I did have Norton but the subscription exired and I uninstalled it.  Wanted to try something different.  Any help would be appreciated.

Strange... Even more that you downloaded twice...
Can you try these setup files in another computer?

Unless you totally uninstalled Norton including any remnents left behind in the registry, avast! will not work. They arent compatible. at this point, the best thing to do is to completely uninstall Norton and avast and then start again.

Something similar after I downloaded an update.

It installed fine. I had no problems. Then after reboot, all seemed okay, And the computer froze. Then after another reboot, I try to copy a file using the right click for the file menu, and get a pop up that says "Protection Error 00000052". That was it before it closed Explorer and rebooted.
I went back and reproduced the error several times and this is what I see:

The actual error  disables my taskbar and desktop, so I can't really do anything after it hits.
If I get the Explorer Fault, It just sets off a chain of unclosable pop-ups. Gah!

I included this, if it helps. Norton's is installed but disabled. I don't know if that is possibly causing  conflict, but I am stumped at this point.
