Dear Lukas,

I have 2 groups of computers that I want to create custom installs for.  1 set of installs are a default installation with all shields.  2nd set is a custom install, leaving out the Mail Shield, the IM shield, and the P2P Shield. We could do this with ADNM.  Do we have this option now with SBC?
We have proven that disabling shields after installation can sometimes cause avast! to block some functions, like my previous post in the "avast! Pro" forum.  After disabling shields, Pixology could no longer load it's reciept printer driver under Windows 7.  By custom installing avast! without the shields ever installed, all worked perfectly.

Hi JR,

unfortunately, there is no such option in SBC now. I know that there was such option in ADNM however we drop it for SBC (to made it simpler).
OTOH, the functionality to create such "taylor made distro package" is still in place. It's just a question how to invoke it (command line) or if we should produce a "tool" to make it more comfortable for you.
IMO, it should be more discussed. I'd suggest to start a discussion on forum to find how many of the "users" is missing this functionality.

regards
Lukas.
Sincerely,

I was about to say that it was possible by configuring a new group and put the object in that group, but that disables the the shields only, not completely leave out as you want.

Actually i assumed that when you created a group without those shields activated that those shields wouldnt be installed on a fresh deployment.

Again i dont understand why Avast crew decided that what makes it simpler to program for them, is the best option for the businesses that uses the product. This was for big example also the case with the location of the mirror files where the crew decided it was fine to place the mirror on OS disk (COME ON!!) disregarding any compliance that companies might have and not have it be movable. (thank you tho for listening to my arguments in that mather and fixing it so company compliance can be met)

If the feature is still there, document it and share it to us.
If you desire to make a tool for it, then make the tool
But do not hide this functionality and only make it known until there are complaints....

i would like to see this functionality too then, my Win2k8 servers dont need p2p or IM shields for example, thus this should not be installed (extra load) many companies have a compliance that dictates that a server/client should not have software(modules) installed that is does not need, even if that is a module from a bigger package.

I dont care if it comes out in the form of documentation or a special tool (MSI creator?) as long as it comes...
An MSI option is actually one of the points in my feature request thread...

This has become a serious issue for me. I have one customer that uses custom applications for business functions and the new Avast client is locking the application up. This is just the latest in a series of problems with the new product that we have run into. I am taking a lot of heat for recommending this product and they are fixing to start using something else if I can not solve this problem. I need to know how to envoke this "Custom install" option from the command line or another solution to install without shields even being present on the system

I have the same problem!!  it would be a great help to see this command line tool that they talk about as a "work around" until they produce a GUI tool the will allow us to create the installers.

We have the same situation where the customer that is evaluating the product is greatly dissatisfied with the product and wants us to dump it!!

We easily do more than $30k of renewals in a year!!

Please give us the tool!!

Thanks.

Just an update, the customer that we are working with is jumping ship on this product because they can not wait for this half baked avast to work.

Not sure how many more will do the same.

We are holding off on renewing licenses to see what avast will do.

I personally do not want to change to a different product but if other venders already have their program in order there it seems a clear choice for me.

I also require the customisation of client installs.
For a business based product , the console does nto allow enough cutomisation of a deployment.
I need to be able to install clients with as many features disabled or enabled as I like from the console.
Not deploy it and have to manually log in and stop features.
Luckily i only have 25 end users , if I had more I would not have upgraded to ver 6.

I suggest to start a new topic, as this thread is from August.

I'm terribly disappointed that this isn't available (yet).  I was hoping it would get better & I'd be able to set more fine-grained exclusions automatically.  Not having a pre-packaged custom installation is a HUGE step back!

weird to me tho

they are prepping SBC to maintain 2000 clients, why would they bring out a second business package that does the same?

SBC is a very simplified management tool.  Most end users like this simplicity, and can manage on their own.  ADNM (and ADNM2 is ADNM with ver.6 plugin) is very powerful, and significantly more complicated due to the granular control that it enables.  Most IT Engineers want the ability of custom installs, and this granular control.

I have many IT Engineers that have attempted to use SBC, and have proven their case that it will NOT work, and have been waiting (some patiently) for ADNM2 to release.  avast! will NOT be able to discontinue avast! 4 until this is released and we have given ample time for customers to upgrade.

I have 1 reseller, who has so many clients, that I am not sure he will be able to convert them all in a year. (given the fact that XP will not push install with SBC, so will ADNM2 be any different?)

I believe for XP to push install, ADNM2 would have to uninstall avast! 4, reboot, run the avast cleaner in safe mode, reboot, and then install Bus Prot.

If anybody knows anything different, please let me know!

If anybody knows anything about the release date of ADNM2, please let me know!

Is there a BETA of ADNM2 out there, as I have not seen nor heard anything yet. Please let me know!
Sincerely,

Maybe for customer with more than 2000 machines!

How many people have installed SBC for more than 200 machines?

I have a reseller that will NOT use SBC because it will NOT work in their environment, and needs ADNM2.  So all these conversions are in a wait state.  Many are more than 200 units.  I do have some SBC installs that are above 200 units.
