Don't know where Reply#15 came from

The only options for the Suspicious File were Ignore or Delete, no Quarantine option was available.

Not that it matters now ( due to the BSOD )

And thanks for your time and advice nonetheless

As you are offline and I feel like I am beating my head against a wall, I am taking a break.

Thanks for all of your help, I truly appreciate your time and effort - hopefully we'll get this resolved in the future.

@ Rixuel

No need to apologize, we are all here to learn.  Hopefully the problems that I have and hopefully work through can make someone else's life a little easier.

The machine with the problem is my work one and I am pretty sure it has at least 4GB of RAM.  I will get the correct number to you tomorrow.

Did you go through the steps above to try to fix yours?

How much RAM do you have?

aswSP.sys is the self protection module of avast. I would not recommend keeping it off but if you disable avast self protection, do you get blue screens?

It's in the troubleshooting section of avast.

I only have 1,5 GB of ram

For me, the aswSP.sys is causing the BSoD at a random time.

@iridesce,

Can you notice any specific action that might be triggering the BSOD? Maybe a specific website you open? Or some action in the browser? Or something being done in Windows at the same time? Or a certain level of CPU, HDD or RAM activity?

I guess someone from Avast Team should review your specific (mini)dumps, but any additional info (for example, what I asked here) might help too.

I think the minidump would be the next route if a clean install is still causing a problem..

Thanks for the ideas

I'm away from my office this weekend so I will get back to the minidump when I return

Enjoy the August weekend ( here that means we actually get sunshine ).

Indeed on the sunshine  ;D

We get to see the sun about 2 months a year - the rest of the time we are cloudy, misty and chilly.  Though when the clouds part this time of year, it is quite wonderful...

Hope the clouds part there soon.

So... back to it.

I used the uninstall program to delete the installation.
Then ran uniblue registry cleaner
Then reinstalled
Then BSODed again

Uploaded the minidump to ftp://ftp.avast.com ( forum.avast.comindex.phptopic=82871.0 )
Then submitted a support ticket and attached the minidump there also.

Guess we'll see what happens.

Thanks for your assistance.

We could check to ensure that there was no rootkit placed on the system.
