The decrease is maybe because avast! still has bugs and problems, and I meet many cases where avast! let through malwares into the computers. I don't want to blame avast!
Uh...have you seen the latest independent test results.

I have not had any virus, malware or trojans since I started using avast. avast has a proven record in having very high detection rates.

it seems a little silly to me, how many times have any of the people in this forum , for instance , downloaded avast AT ALL in the past 3 or so weeks? if things are running fine on everyones machine, its logical that download numbers would drop.
if its not broken, then ppl aren't out there trying to fix it.  my two cents

I use Avast on my laptop, I use AVG on PC, I like both, but Avast used to have lots of downloads and now don't, I'm just curious why. Like I said it's only been a few weeks or so since i was on download.com, and I was shocked when avast wasn't in top 20. I always install avast on my friends computer when they ask....so I love avast. IT WAS JUST VERY SHOCKING TO ME THOSE NUMBERS!

I believe the distribution of avast! has been moved from download.com elsewhere (cnet? don't know) - that's why the numbers went down.
(Don't ask me for reasons, I don't know them.)

Aren't they joined at the hip ?

If you go to cnet.com and click the Downloads link, you get redirected to hXXp://download.cnet.com/windows/ if you try to connect to download.com, you get directed to hXXp://download.cnet.com/windows/ so essentially they are the same.

Haven't I seen another topic like this (don't know if it was from you) before ?

I believe I raised the point in that this is the top 20 downloads for 'all' software not just AV software and then 21st wasn't bad anyway when considered against all software downloads. Now it is at 24th in all downloads.

Has anyone noticed that avast is #3 in anti-virus on cnet.com  http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?tag=mncol;1

Which I know better. If you read their review most of the test results they note are either 5.0 or 5.1 and "not" 6.0...hmmm makes you wonder.  :)
