If you want to sell your system clean, than why not just give a format?

If you have personal data in this computer, it will be not even better shread or wipe the HDD. There are a lot of programs to do this. I reccommend Eraser (http://www.tolvanen.com/eraser/) that can make a nuke boot disk to erase all surface of the HDD with security  ;)

Give the uninstall util from Avast's website a try. That should work.

Or you could leave Avast on it and working so the other person can see how wonderfull it is :D

Or put the things you/he want to keep on cdr, format the drive and do clean install of Windows, security patches/updates and such.

Quin,

Follow this link.....go to download Avclear 4
Download and install Avast Uninstall Utility.

http://www.avast.com/eng/download/programs/avast_uninstall_util.html

This will remove all traces of Avast.
