Does anybody experience lags or slow browsing with the new beta?
My computer is a little strange... ::)
No slow down here.

Well, I'd ask again - are you sure the update happened after you logged on?
The virus definitions may be updated even if nobody is logged on (yet) - in which case the popup is not shown (cause there's nobody to show it to at the moment).
Well, Igor, you're the specialist, I'd say my computer is turned off and when I put it on, only way to get an internet connection is after log on, but you are the specialist. Anyway, this is a minor problem. It's true that if I leave my pc open, I have normal updates pop-up happenning. ::)

My Internet connection is never turned off so I never have to log on.

Rolled by system back (Rollback Rx) before installing betas and FF is loading pages perfectly again.  (CPU and fan seem to running less again too.)

Scratch that-- FF just did that weird thing of not loading images correctly and the current version of avast! is running.  It started with the update but I'm back before that now so I'm not sure what happened.

This version still has not solved the problem where if you run a manual program update through maintainence the side bar will be disabled, opening gadgets will bring the bar back again so its just a small bug.
Everything else is working fine though and iv also noticed that this version has improved on the slow booting that came with 1273  :)
I never had this problem on any version of AVAST 8)
Are you using the side bar on win 7 64 bit ?
Yes, of course! :)
edit: Upgrade to 1279  all is ok, except for the update or upgrade notification popups I haven't seen since 2-3 days. I have to put my pc OFF so I go to work and put it ON everymorning around 9 AM. ???
Also, I have to +1 Tech upon slower browsing experience with 1279. I tested with Chrome, web pages start loading fast then it takes ages to complete the process of loading.

Some of my pages load a bit slow however I have three programs (a bit paranoid on this eh ;D) running that check scripts so I am happy :) that they appear to be doing their job.

From this one can deduce that you do not have the Windows Screen Saver "on resume, display logon screen" box checked.

Thanks for adding option "scan traffic from well-known browser processes only" to web shield.

What does this option mean? It isn't translated in the Russian version.
May the FOSS be with you!

Well the new web shield scans 'all' http traffic no matter what might have originated that traffic. In the previous avast versions only well know browser were supported (to ensure compatibility I assume), so anything else that initiated an http connection wouldn't have been scanned.

So essentially this option reverts to how the web shield used to work with only supported browsers.

It means that you are back on the old version with this setting regarding the web shield, where the web shield did only protect/scan the browsers.

Hi DavidR,

I've asked this before but I guess my question probably got lost between all the other users' posts:

if I tick "Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only", will the traffic generated by Firefox's plugin-container.exe (a separate browser's process) be still scanned by the Web Shield?

Thanks,
T.

I don't believe this originates any connections as it says on the tin, it is the plug-in container, to ensure if a plug-in crashed it didn't take down the browser.

Quote
If a plugin crashes or freezes, it will not affect the rest of Firefox. You will be able to reload the page to restart the plugin and try again.

Even if it does then checking the "Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only" option would exclude that as A) it isn't a browser and B) certainly not well known.

Thanks again, DavidR.

So I guess it can be considered a "well-known browser process"...
Anyway, it does generate connections using port 80 (and port 443) - because Online Armor asked for permission.

It also may use additional ports depending on the plugins installed (e.g. 844 and 1935 if you have the Flash Player, but obviously this is not http traffic).

Hi!

First of all, I am new in the forum. I want to congratulate the people of Avast for such a great product. I would also like to know if you are planning to release a version of Avast in-the-cloud.

Thanks!
