Avast 6 web shield blocks internet access

I am using windows 7 ultimate.
i use windows firewall......
I installed avast 6 today after removing Avast 4.8 Pro

I cant access any site when the webshield is on... when i turn it off i am able to access the sites......

Are you using the advanced rules (don't know what they are called) in the win7 firewall, e.g. outbound checking ?

If so - Does it allow avastSvc.exe internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.

actually i am not using advanced rules.....and even when i checked that i didnt see avast there..... so that might not be the problem.... i have now reinstalled 4.8 itself.... i tried many ways using avasst 6 and failed....

Which version of avast! 6.X did you install, Free, Pro or Internet Security?

I would be surprised if avast's firewall was blocking it, but you should still check that the avastSvc.exe is allowed access as I mentioned in my first reply.

Have you read the information from the link in my last post and checked that you have that variable correct and the c:\windows\temp folder exists ?

I have Avast Internet Security installed in XP. There wasn't at first, but was later, a conflict between Windows XP firewall aand Avast's firewall. On disabling XPs firewall I was allowed access to the internet again, not before I took my PC into the repair shop where they offered to re-install XP! Luckily I surmised it was a network problem and stopped them in time (and before they charged me!)

Did you try to checkmark the web shield option in expert settings to "scan traffic from well known browsers only?"

Please add an exclusion for avastsvc.exe in Windows Firewall

Since the OP is not going to do anything, I just want to stress out for future readers: delete your firewall rules so they can be re-created again with the new version or new update / upgrade of avast.

In addition (not instead), in some limited cases, the web shield would also need to be set with "...well known browsers only", but even in those limited cases usually there are better options/settings that would solve the problem too.

Of course, any other security tool that conflicts with avast should be uninstalled before avast's installation, and the respective removal utility should be ran so to clean any conflicting remnants.
