Does anyone know how to get rid of this update alert?
« on: September 04, 2011, 09:00:54 AM »
It's been quite bothersome and I would like to find out how to stop receiving this pop-up without updating it.

You have two choices, register your free Avast again for another year or do what the alert says and upgrade your Avast and get extra protection ;)

Well I don't want to upgrade because it tells me I would have to uninstall it. And if I do that, I will have to go through the process of installing the latest one.

I fail to see any issue. If you want avast protection just upgrade to the latest version. It should install over your present version with just a re-boot. From the GUI go to...Maintenance...click update program. Then let avast install and register as before. It's not that difficult.  :)

Not if as I suspect the OP is using avast 4.8, given the bit about 'Your version is obsolete' in the image link given.

Well yeah, it's version 4.8.1368 and it tells me it's already up to date.

That is because there are no further program updates for avast 4.8, it is effectively on life support. It hasn't had a program update in some considerable time.

Now that there has been an update to the Business Protection software, where the majority of avast 4.8 installations are. As they update to the newer versions avast 4.8 will cease to be supported. Whilst there is no fixed date, it is unlikely to be a long term thing. So now is the time to plan the update if you have win XP, Vista or win7 OS.
