Junk Files. Cannot Delete.
« on: November 06, 2004, 11:03:34 PM »
I have just purchased BART for servicemen and created a boot disk. It's awesome except that when I try to run the junk files deletion applet, it cannot delete any files.

I am using WinXP Pro SP2.

How can I get the junk files deletion applet to work?

I to get this with 2.0.102.

A work around is to ALT-TAB to the main menu and open Salimander at the same time as junk file remover is open.
Then ALT-TAB between apps to find the files to delete.

I am not sure, but if you are working on an XP machine with profiles passworded, access to deleting those profile files may be restricted.  Can one of the Avast guys advise on this pls?  :)

Cheers

Thanks.

You would think a $600.00 program would have a way around that.

I would hate to run into this at a client's home or business.

Hope there is a way.

You will find that the guys are really great with this software.
Any bugs are fixed straight away. It's just on weekends no-one is around.
I would say in 48 hours there will be a new version with this bug fixed once they read your topic.
They will work hard with you to make sure it's as it should be.
Having said that, there are a few topics  in here refering to the JFR not being able to remove files that Salimander deletes no worries.

We'll just have to keep them informed with feedback to get it right ;)

Thanks.

It's good to know the Bart team is serious about keeping us lowly techs in business. :)

I will look at some of the other posts and see what's up.

Have a good day.

Thanks for the report. I'll try to fix that bug as soon as possible.

I'll need more information on that problem. Could you locate a file that can't be deleted by JFR and mail me its attributes and access rights, please?

Thanks for the reply.

There are over 200 files it can't delete. I will see if I can dump the output to a file and post back.

Description:

Junk file remover cannot delete files. 3773 files were found and junk file remover could not delete any of them.

Steps to Replicate:

1. Boot to the BART CD
2. Open Junk File Remover
3. Load Registry
4. Accept default file filters
5. Begin file search
6. Select all files
7. Choose to delete files

Expected Result:

All selected files are deleted.

Actual Result:

An error message similar to "File cannot be deleted: Abort, Retry, Ignore" is displayed. No files can be deleted.

Note:

Temporary Internet Files have no special permissions, however the Read Only bit it set.

I can replicate this also.

None of the files have anything unordinary about them.

I think I've found the cause. It should be solved in the next update (today or tomorrow).

Oh great! That's really fantastic. It's nice to have a team that responds to users.

Good job.

Well users... in the BART case, "customers" would be the proper word I guess (given its price :)).

Anyway an update should be out in a couple of days.
We'd be glad to fix the Services/Drivers applet as well before releasing the patch .

Thanks

I just tried the Junk File Remover.  (No change, it's still not working.)  I did notice, though, that one of it's windows prior to running, asks if you want to "load the registry file" and indicates that you will be able to make changes to the registry.  If you load or don't load the Registry, it doesn't seem to effect anything (it doesn't remove junk files regardless).  But notice that if you do choose the load the Registry, the Registry editing option doesn't appear.  It's as if a screen from the Registry Editor, which is actually a separate utility in the BART, got mixed up and is in the wrong place.  Notice that if you go into the Registry Editor you get the same message, except the ability to edit the Registry actually exists there.
