6.0.1289 outlook problem
« on: September 07, 2011, 09:54:44 PM »
New message with update avast version 6.0.1289.  Is this expected behavior?  I don't want to disable ssl/tls and didn't seem to need to in the prior version.

"avast! has detected a secure conection from your mail program(process outlook.exe) to the smtp server 76.96.62.1117(comcast.net).

This type of connection cannot be checked for viruses.  Please disable ssl/tls in your mail client so the Mail Scanner can scan your mail. The Mail Scanner will provide the SSL/TLS security itself."

if you want avast to scan your mail, and you have mail account with SSL/TLS settings, you change the settings in your mail client and let avast do the SSL/TLS connection

If you dont want avast to scan them, you can disable the popup warning

this is how to sett the scan

But I didn't need to do this with 6.0.12xx.  So why the change?

Also Comcast requires the security for access outside of their network?  Will it still work if avast is checking it.  Does avast scan it separately or when it is retrieved by outlook.  In other words is it scanned by avast securely but downloaded by outlook unsecurely.

Nothing has changed, You have always had to disable SSL in the mail accounts and let Avast handle it.

Just checked a another computer with the prior version.  Both computers have "automatically detect and warn about unprotected SSL connections."  Old version doesn't warn with message.  Both outlook configurations are setup with TLS.  Only difference is the mail accounts are listed under avast expert settings on the computer that had the warning.

you can test your mail account with EICAR test virus to see if your ISP is scanning the mail accounts at the mail server  http://www.mtgsy.net/dns/virustest.php

if they do you still have to decide if you also want avast to do it...

But according to the log avast is still scanning mail even with the warning.  Again I am not a new user but either settings were changed with the update or something has changed.
