My Avast Internet Security Is Disabled after System Restore
« on: September 08, 2011, 06:02:34 PM »
A virus has seemed to infect my system restore for XP..I ran Spy bots,Smit Fraud,MalwareBytes and Trojan Remover. All programs seem to remove different issues that other couldnt pick up..I ran restore in safe mode bunch of times and each one was not able to work.It said no changes were able to be made..Then I persistently kept attempting to restore to a previously tried point and I looked like it was gonna fail again.Until, it didnt pop up a fail screen again it looked like a freeze up again. It wasnt showing my desktop just blank wallpaper. So in disgust again I decided to manually kill the power button again..Then I rebooted and to my surprise it was a success all of a sudden it was restored..I was able to pick a keylogger and some spyware via my advanced systemcare program. But after cleaning it keep showing up after each scan.. Furthermore my avast internet security is disabled it seems. It shows im active though??Does anybody know a solution to getting avast up and runnin again. Can I reinsert my activation code cause my license folders are coming up empty???PLEASE HELP :-[

First i would let essexboy check for malware....

Follow Essexboys guide here and attach the logs, he will then review the log when he arrive here

Lower left corner > additional options > attach
If the logs are to big, then upload to http://www.mediafire.com/ and post the download link here

To answer you.Yes by IObit..I read the forums..Do you think I should shy away from these guys??I also have malwarebytes free version..Should I stay with Bytes?? 1 more question: If I have avast, spybots, and malwarebytes running together at start up, Will that affect each ones capabilities or make me more vulnerable??My avast is full version internet security 5..What do you recommend since Im not the computer savvy type?? Any comments would be appreciated..Thanks

SpyBot once a very good tool (back in W98 time) but not anymore, they have a small update once a week... and IObit company...cant trust them after that
Malwarebytes and superantispyware have more updates in one week then SpyBot in a year

so as an extra scanner alongside avast! i would go for Malwarebytes and Superantispyware.... if you look in all the pro removal forums. Malwarebytes is the first tool they run if your AV has failed to detect

So back to your problem...is it still there ?
i also recomend following the guide i linked to above and attach the logs so essexboy can see if everything is OK

I was wondering if I run avast and Malwarebytes protection together at the same time from startup for ongoing protection??Or will one interfere with the others functions? or should I just run avast from startup and keep malwarebytes as a scan tool for the arsenal??About the possible malware/virus,Im not sure if Im still infected or not.MY computer seems to be running normal but I want to be play safe..My system restore is back to normal and Smit Fraud Fix Im guessing stopped the process so Spy Bots can pic up the antvirus overide while avast did not.Guess it lives up to the name overide. Im not sure if Smit Fraud Fix or virus /malware was the culprit in disabling my avast. But I was able to reinstall with new license file from avast tech support..  I tried to run the OTL from the essexboy thread but it freezes when it tries to read Modules and I have to close it..The program is unable to give recommendations and I followed given instructions..Maybe u can offer some more advice..Highly Appreciated..Thanks
