Can you run Hook-based keyloggers along with Avast 6.xx?

Tks.

Depends on which one and how the hooking works ?

You would have to take care the hooking of avast and this didn't conflict.

DavidR,

Thanks for getting back to me... I decided to go ahead and test SpyShelter Personal Free. Anyone care to comment?

Tks.

You're welcome.

You my need to find out what the hooking file is and possibly excluding it in the file system shield.

DavidR,

Humph... after trying it out, on my system the black/white list decided to disallow Systems Explorer form running in the Tray.... RevoUninstaller fixed that. I decided that between Avast and MalwareBytesPro, I should leave well enough alone about keyloggers. Did add in WinPatrol though as it takes up few resources and doesn't seem (upon initial usage) to conflict with anything else.

Personally I have never felt the need for an anti-keylogger on my systems.

David this is for my information. Doesn't Outpost have an anti-keylogger?
And why do you feel anti-keyloggers are not necessary?  ???
Dell Inspiron, Win10x64--HP Envy Win10x64--Both systems Avast Free v17.9.2322, Comodo Firewall v8.2 w/D+, MalwareBytes v3.0, OpenDNS, Super Anti-Spyware, Spyware Blaster, MCShield, Unchecky, Vivaldi Browser and, various browser security tools.

I does up to a point in the Outpost Firewall Pro, in the anti-leak function, see image extract of help file.

Though it isn't a full blown anti-keylogger, I think the key words in the extract are record and transfer. If whatever is being recorded can't be transferred then the key-logger if present isn't effective. But I don't know if it would alert you to the presence of a key-logger as such.

DavidR,

I do a lot of work on outside computers with portable firefox and other apps on a USB stick... as I have no control over those computers and their malware protection systems, I rely upon ClamWinPortable on the stick to catch "stuff" and so, I began to worry about keyloggers.

I certainly don't feel it has a place in anti-virus software, other than key loggers being detected in avast signatures, which it already does up to a point. If it were to be included anywhere I would be in the suite not the AV.

The last thing I want is a bloated monster that tries to be a jack of all trades, master of none. Considering there are already lots of specialist anti-keyloggers out there should you feel the need and a number of firewalls that also have some protection against key-loggers.

DavidR,

Thanks for the perspective. I didn't really expect Avast 6 to handle keylogging, just wondered if there were both interactive and standalone keylogging software worth exploring.

Well I don't know if your old version of Outpost Firewall 6.5.1 include the key logging feature in Outpost Firewall (free/pro or the suite) 7.5.o you should investigate that.

DavidR,

It seems that my legacy version of Outpost does handle keyloggers to some degree.

"Outpost Firewall Free detects attempts of any programs to record and transfer typed in information, thus protecting your computer from any data leakage."

Hadn't thought to look there for that kind of protection. Your thought very much appreciated.
