8.1 is not "full of glitches". It works as good or better than 8 and has some nice changes and enhancements. It is worth the upgrade, especially since it's free.
Secure boot is a new feature in Windows 8 computers that hampers the installation of any other OS but Windows 8. It can be gotten around.
If you install Classic Shell and use the Win7 skin, you will almost never notice the difference. So there really should be no reason to want to revert back. One thing you may have to do is change the settings in Internet Explorer to always use the desktop version instead of defaulting to the new full screen Windows app version that I personally do not like at all. Of course if you use another browser, that is not an issue.
