See here, Bob>>http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=81706.msg688489#msg688489, apparently a Windows-side issue, they are currently blocked from installing, looks like you will have to wait till the beta.

Thanks but for now that computer has to rely on MS for it's protection.  :'(

Hey @Bob3160 is it true that you can make windows 8 dev preview look like windows 7 in a way?  I wonder if avast! 7 will run on windows 8..
OS: Windows 11 64-bit
Webbrowser: Mozilla Firefox
PC Specs: Intel i5-12400f, Nvidia RTX 3050, 16gb ram, 1.5TB SSD(s).

That's probably a silly question. avast! 7 when it's released will work on windows 8

A part of it already looks like Windows7   it all depends on what you're doing and what you're using.

I guess security software providers will work on a Windows 8 version from Jan 1.

That is not correct.

I have been running W8 DP for a week.

SAS runs perfectly fine in W8.  In fact it has even nabbed some malware on my W8 computer
Free Malwarebytes runs perfectly fine in W8.  Don't know if the Pro-version does so in real-time but my guess would be yes.

I have found the dividing line thus.

AV programs at this time will not run under W8, though there might be some exceptions.  I checked a couple including AIS and they were not compatible with W8

However anti-spyware programs which do also catch some viruses appear to run on W8.

I replaced WD with MSE for now since at this point MSE defends against all malware not just spyware.

Since MSE is a Microsoft product, I guess we're at this point still dependent on
Microsoft for our AV protection.

I'd rather test an avast 7 beta on my "old" Windows 7 first :)

I recently installed the Windows 8 Developers Preview
on my 10.1 inch Netbook only to find out that the
Windows Apps on the desktop didn't work when clicking on them.
It turns out that your display needs to be at least 1024 X 768
if it's less than that, the apps don't respond when you click on them.

Simple fix after some searching and reading was quite simple.
1. Make sure your video card drivers are up to date.

2. Use the following Reg Edit fix:
Open Regedit and Search for  "Display1_DownScalingSupported" (without the quotes)
Change the value from 0 (Zero) to 1 (One)
3. Reboot
4. When the system comes back up,
Right Click on a blank space of the desktop and select "Screen Resolution" from the menue that opens.
Select 1024X768 and hit ok then apply.
Your Desktop Apps will now work. :)
